T8 $50 1861 PF-2 Cr. 15/17 PMG Choice About Unc 58. Hoyer & Ludwig was pressed into service to produce treasury notes when it became apparent that demand was far outstripping supply in the early months of the war. Some 123,654 notes of this design were issued, with around 46,100 of this variety part of that total. Like all B Plate notes, this example is printed on thick bond paper which was ill-suited for use on circulating bank notes as it did not wear well. Depending upon the position of for, either before (Cr. 15) or above (Cr. 17) Treasr., this is one of those two Cr. numbers. Since this for is above u and /u before Treasr, we are listing both numbers. The position has no effect on rarity in any case as it is completely variable. PMG mentions that the note was previously mounted. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
