T39 $100 1862 PF-1 Cr. 289 PMG About Uncirculated 55. Because its contracts were pulled by Secretary Memminger for refusing to move to Columbia, SC, in the Spring of 1862 when Richmond was threatened, Hoyer & Ludwig printed only 20,000 T39s that were all issued over the span of five days in early May (5th-9th), 1862. This note was issued on the first day, May 5 and is in wonderful condition, with snowy white paper and clear design details on a note which just misses being fully framed. Three IP stamps on the back trace its travels through the war with an anonymous stamp paying interest to January 1, 1863, a scarcer Columbus, MS, stamp paying interest to January 1, 1864, and an Augusta, GA, stamp paying the final interest on January 1, 1865. This note also bears a red 91262 stamp which most sources believe was a validation stamp indicating that the note had been identified as genuine on September 12, 1862, during a widespread counterfeit scare that gripped the country. PMG mentions a pinhole. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
