Military Endorsement "C.W. Kennedy Capt. & AQM" T40 $100 1862 PF-20 Cr. 309 PMG Very Fine 20. Clifton W. Kennedy was appointed as Captain & AQM on Oct. 7, 1862, reporting to the Quartermaster Department. This note was originally issued out of the Treasurer's Office in Richmond on January 23, 1863 as evidenced by the large office stamp. It was subsequently issued on February 24, 1863, by Kennedy who was serving as quartermaster for McCown's 2nd Division, Polk's Corps, Army of Tennessee in Shelbyville, TN. Kennedy resigned his commission on January 25, 1864 in order to care for his wife and two children who had been burned out of their home and were subsequently refugees in Alabama. PMG reports some minor edge roughness and a bit of ink burn, neither of which are overly distracting. This is one of three examples of this very rare military endorsement known at present.
