T64 $500 1864 PF-2 Cr. 489 PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ. The $500 was reintroduced in 1864 due to the effects of inflation late in the war. The design is one of the most patriotically-inspired, featuring a portrait of Stonewall Jackson at lower right and the Great Seal of the Confederacy surrounded by drums and armaments and the second national flag (1863-65), the so-called Stainless Banner at left. Some descriptions indicate that the flag is the Confederate "battle flag." This is incorrect as the flag clearly has a white field that surrounds the right and bottom margins of the "Stars and Bars" upper left corner of the flag. Ironically, the only other uniface 1864 issues were the 50¢, $1, and $2 denominations. A very nice, visually appealing, "pink underprint" note with only minor evidence of time in circulation and handling. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
