George V 5 Cents 1921 MS64 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM22a. Despite frequently appearing in lower grades or with Details assignments, examples of this type continue to command substantial premiums. The present specimen, however, stands decidedly apart, offered in an immaculate near-Gem grade that places it among the finer representatives of the type. Further contributing to its collectibility is the remarkably small surviving population of approximately 400 pieces. These few survivors escaped the melting of nearly three million silver 5 Cents coins following legislation that introduced a new copper-nickel composition and called for the withdrawal and destruction of the earlier silver issues.
