Philip III "Dry Tortugas/Nuestra Señora del Rosario" Cob 2 Reales ND (1598-1603) P-B Shipwreck Effect NGC, Potosi mint, Cal-625. 1.9gm. Salvaged from the "Nuestra Señora del Rosario" (sunk in 1622 off Dry Tortugas, Florida). The Nuestra Señora del Rosario, part of the ill-fated Spanish treasure fleet of 1622, sailed alongside its sister ship, the famous Nuestra Señora de Atocha, carrying immense riches from the Americas back to Spain. Departing Havana on September 4, 1622, the fleet encountered a devastating hurricane in the Florida Keys. The Rosario struck a rock, and survivors clung to it for safety. Spanish salvage operations soon recovered significant portions of the ship's armament and cargo. In 1971, the wreck was rediscovered near Loggerhead Reef, yielding artifacts such as cannons, swivel guns, and silver coins.
