First Day of Issue April 13, 1976 Postally Cancelled Fr. 1935-E $2 1976 Federal Reserve Notes. Fifty Consecutive Examples. Crisp Uncirculated. Each note carries a clear postal Cincinnati, OH cancellation with a date of "Apr 13 1976." This was the first day of issue for the $2 FRN. April 13, 1976 was a big day for both collectors and non-collectors alike, as people in all walks of life scrambled to acquire the $2s at banks and then proceed to have their newly issued deuces postally cancelled by post office clerks on the first day issue, which was also Thomas Jefferson's 233rd birthday. Each $2 in this lot has a 13¢ state flag stamp affixed (the state flag stamps were released on February 23, 1976 and each sheet of 50 stamps had all 50 state flags in alphabetical order) and each note's serial number ends in relation to the state's admittance to the Union using digits 751-800. Hawaii's state flag stamp is affixed on the note where its serial number ends in "00." Few of the state flag 50 note sets were prepared in this way as this method of collecting required a degree of planning.
