1652 Oak Tree Threepence, No IN on Obverse, Noe-24, W-270, Salmon 2-A, High R.6, XF45 PCGS. 17 grains. This rare Noe-24, Salmon 2-A variety displays a retrograde first S in MASATHVSETS, with the remaining two S's normal. The delicate lettering and date numerals are somewhat crude on what is a decidedly seldom-offered variety. This Choice XF example is weakly struck at the lower reverse and left-side lettering, affecting GLAN of ENGLAND. The motifs are otherwise well-defined on a teardrop shaped planchet. The W in NEW is distinctive, formed by thin, criss-crossing V strokes. Overall, the gunmetal-gray surfaces are free from distractions and the obverse sharpness is decidedly above-average for this challenging Oak Tree threepence. Listed on page 8 of the 2026 Guide Book.
