1838 H10C Large Stars, No Drapery, MS67+ PCGS. The Mint modified the design of the inaugural 1837 Seated Liberty half dime in 1838 by adding 13 stars to the obverse. The two major types from the 2.2 million-piece mintage include coins with Large Stars and Small Stars. This exceptional 1838 half dime is the slightly more available Large Stars variety, listed in the 2026 Guide Book on page 118. Vibrant mint luster illuminates sharply struck design elements to complement the colorful toning on this attractive, Plus-graded Superb Gem. Eye appeal is terrific. Champagne-gold highlights the centers, bordered by violet and sea-blue on the obverse. Deeper aquamarine tones are seen on the reverse and light iridescence emerges along the periphery. The well-preserved surfaces include typical die clashing on the reverse -- mostly concealed by the dazzling and colorful display. PCGS reports only three numerically finer examples (7/26).
