1809 10C JR-1, High R.3, XF40 PCGS. CAC. The first year of the Capped Bust design for the dime saw an accounting figure of 51,065 coins distributed, which is believed in line with the actual production figures. Deep onyx-gray patina adorns the rims of this example which gives way to steel colors along the interior. The strike is excellent with pleasing detailing along the devices, though the stars are slightly flat. Even at XF40, the issue among all varieties is scarce with just 44 other pieces seen finer than this current example at PCGS and none seen finer at NGC, while just 13 have been CAC'd finer (8/26).
