1840 1C Large Date, N-8, R.1, MS66 Red PCGS. Scintillating red surfaces are scarcely different in hue than the day this coin left the Mint 186 years ago. Just a single spot below the throat can be used to identify the coin, as no abrasions are present either. The impression is strong across both sides. This is the sole finest Red 1840 Large Date large cent at PCGS, and across all color designations, only a single 66+ is numerically finer. Therefore, depending on which criterion the collector favors, the present offering could be considered the finest certified 1840 Large Date cent.
