1795 H10C V-5, LM-8, R.3, MS64+ NGC. This is an intermediate die state, cracked from the Y in LIBERTY, through Liberty's face, to the 7 in the date. LM-8 is a plentiful die pairing among 1795 half dimes, but high-end Mint State examples are nonetheless rare. This Plus-designated Choice example displays brilliant satiny luster with a hint of warm champagne toning. There are no mentionable abrasions. Strike weakness is seen on the lower hair curls, cheek, and portions of the eagle's wings, a factor possibly related to adjustment marks on the obverse portrait that were not fully struck out of the planchet. Eye appeal is nonetheless pleasing for this high-end, near-Gem example. Census (all varieties included): NGC Census (all 1795 varieties combined): 5 in 64+, 19 finer (7/26).
