1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1 PR62 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment I (coin turn, center of Liberty's head opposite the D in DOLLAR). Die State F. This coin was previously considered an intermediate die state between E and F, since the rim nick above the A in STATES was always visible, but the die chip in the dentils below the R in DOLLAR had not been seen. Further study of the coin identifies the die chip in the dentils, confirming the Die State F. The surfaces are uniformly bright over both sides, remarkably so in fact, with just the slightest overlay of rose-lilac patina. Strike details are fully brought up in all areas, including Liberty's foot and sandal. Listed among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins. PCGS Population: 42 in 62 (2 in 62+), 38 finer (7/26).
