1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1 PR63 PCGS. CAC. Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment I (coin turn, center of Liberty's head opposite DO in DOLLAR). Die State D. The clash in the field above the eagle's wing is readily apparent on this piece, while neither of the diagnostics for die State E are present, rendering this coin's die state attribution positive. We cannot find a prior appearance of this piece in our auctions. The coin displays reflective fields toned in rich colors that "flash out" when angled beneath a light. It is sharp, and scattered contact marks are not bothersome for the grade, as the CAC green label reveals. This is a nice collector-grade Select example of this important early standard dollar issue.
