1854-D $3 AU50 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Perhaps no other D-mint issue captures the imagination of Southern gold enthusiasts like the 1854-D three dollar. It is both a first-year and a one-year type, not to mention the issue's tiny 1,120-piece mintage and its resultant low survival numbers. The 1854-D three dollar has long secured its place among the numismatically elite Dahlonega gold coins. This is an especially attractive example, with flashy reflectivity among the legends that creeps into the adjacent fields. Despite 10 points of circulation wear, a bold strike for the issue remains visible. Faint die clashing exists on both sides as is usual for this scarce Dahlonega date, alongside scattered tiny marks and abrasions. Trace amounts of luster enliven the pleasing light, green-gold coloration. PCGS Population: 20 in 50, 52 finer (7/26). HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
