(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star, XF45 PCGS. K-20, R.5. Christopher Bechtler was the best known private minter of gold coins in the South. Despite Federal mints in North Carolina and Georgia, the Bechtler family facility operated into the 1850s. Kagin-20 is a scarce variety distinguished by a large star on the lower reverse field. An attractive green-gold example with partial luster and problem-free surfaces. Housed in a PCGS 30th Anniversary holder, and listed on page 390 of the 2026 Guide Book.
