1874 Seven-Piece Proof Set, PR64 to PR66 PCGS. Housed in consecutively numbered holders and an original set, per the 1979 Stack's description. It has appeared intact on two prior occasions. The year 1874 was the first time proof sets did not include three cent silver pieces, half dimes, or Seated dollars. This set includes: Cent PR65 Brown. Sharp and somewhat satiny rather than deeply reflective, with mingled golden-brown and chestnut hues. Three Cent Nickel PR66. JD-1, R.2. This piece is modestly reflective and essentially brilliant with sharp detail and pristine surfaces. Shield Nickel PR66. Fletcher-4, JD-1, High R.2. Nicely sharp and brilliant with ample field reflectivity, and quite eye-appealing. Dime -- Arrows -- PR64. F-101, JD-1, R.3. Glimmering fields adorn ocean-blue toning across this Choice proof, with a bold strike that visits the design elements. The central reverse is brilliant. Quarter -- Arrows -- PR64. Briggs 5-D, JD-1. Amber-gold toning graces much of each side, while deeper violet appears around the outer borders. Sharp and eye-appealing. Half Dollar -- Arrows -- PR65. JD-1, R.2. Radiant ocean-blue, royal-purple, and lighter orange toning envelops the devices as well as the prolific reflectivity of the fields. The strike is pleasing and sharp, with a small debris flaw left of HALF and under the first branch leaf. The issue is scarcely seen beyond PR65, with PCGS reporting just 13 non-Cameo examples numerically finer than the present piece (7/26). Trade Dollar PR65 Cameo. JD-1, High R.2. This amazing Cameo-designated Gem proof is as pristine as the day it was struck, save for the added layer of exceptionally colorful toning. Cerulean-blue and violet hues dominate the margins before ceding to peach-gold centers for outstanding eye appeal, while frosted silver central motifs account for the well-deserved Cameo designation. PCGS Population (for Cameo 1874 proof Trade dollars): 7 in 65 (1 in 65+) Cameo, 1 finer (7/26). Ex: S.S. Forest, ...
