One of the most distinctive and important varieties in the entire California fractional gold series. Unlike the familiar Liberty or Indian designs, BG-435 features the dramatic Arms of California with a seated figure and bear, while the reverse displays an eagle surrounded by CALIFORNIA GOLD HALF DOLLAR. This superb Gem exhibits rich golden color, strong luster, and remarkably clean surfaces. The intricate design is sharply presented, with excellent definition throughout. Rare in any grade and especially so at the Gem level, this is an exceptional example of the celebrated BG-435 and a major California fractional gold rarity. PCGS currently estimates only about 70 examples survive in all grades and just eight in MS65 or finer.
