Georgia May 4, 1778 $40 PCGS Apparent About New 53. A total of £150,000 in Bills of Credit, payable out of the proceeds of forfeited Tory estates, was authorized under the Act of May 4, 1778. The $40 design features an excellent emblem of a dove holding an olive branch paired with a hand holding a dagger on the face paired with the motto AUT PAX AUT BELLUM, IM UTROQUE PARATUS (Either peace or war, prepared for both) on the back. The note is boldly printed on bright paper with sharp signatures of William Maxwill, William Few, Richard Wylly, William O'Bryen, and Nehemiah Wade.
