New York March 5, 1776 (Water Works) 8s PMG Choice About Unc 58. The fourth Water Works issue (designated by a very small 4 over the "T" in "This" ) comprised 5,000 4 Shillings notes and 2,500 8 Shillings notes. This example is signed by Andrew Gautier and Abraham Brasher and printed on two different pieces of paper bonded to each other by Hugh Gaine. The face was printed in red and black and the back in black. The back design shows an illustration of the proposed steam operated water pump done by Christopher Colles. The note is well printed with bold design details as well as the strong, darkly inked signatures of Andrew Gautier and Abraham Brasher. PMG notes a narrow band of a foreign substance (perhaps glue) along the top margin that does not overly distract. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
