Pennsylvania April 10, 1775 £5 PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ. Always a popular issue, this emission totaled £25,000 in Bills and was used for the construction of jails and prisons pursuant to the Act of March 18, 1775. The issue's purpose is reinforced by a vignette of the variously named Walnut Street Workhouse/Prison/Jail which served as the Philadelphia jail, accepting its first prisoners in 1776 which appears on the back. The £5 denomination was the highest authorized value, with 1,666 of this Plate B note allocated for issue. While the cutting department did not completely cover itself in glory when this note was cut from its sheet, this note is still well printed with bright colors and bold design details as well as clear legible signatures of Job Bacon, Lindsay Coats, and Edward Roberts.
