Rhode Island July 2, 1780 $2 Remainder PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. The federally-guaranteed last emission of Rhode Island comprised $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $7, $8, and $20 denominations, each with an authorized allocation of up to 2,600 notes for issue. The $2 design mimics the $2 Continental Currency symbols used for that denomination: an emblem of a hand threshing grain with a flail accompanied by the motto TRIBULATIO DITAT (Tribulation enriches). This note is a partially signed remainder, missing both a serial number and a signer for the federal guarantee on the back. A large amount of selvage is at right.
