Rhode Island July 2, 1780 $7 PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. The Acts of July 24, 1780, and March 1781 authorized the issue of $130,000 in legal tender Bills of Credit. This action was in accordance with the Continental Congress Resolution of Match 18, 1780, which guaranteed payment and made the amount issued dependent on how much Continental Currency was redeemed at the rate of $40 (old) to $1 (new). Interestingly, some of the cuts for both the face and back were engraved by Henry Dawkins, a former counterfeiter for the British. The note is well printed on excellent paper with good colors and clear signatures of Adam Comstock, Caleb Harris. The federal guarantee on the back, however, is not signed.
