This flashy near-Choice displays universally semi-prooflike fields and attractive pale straw-gold color. BG-403 stands as one of only two round half-dollar varieties that prominently feature the maker’s initials FD—for Frontier, Deviercy & Co.—on the obverse; the other is the nearly as rare BG-404, struck from the identical obverse die.In the 2003 Breen-Gillio reference, Bob Leonard recorded just nine examples, one of which is plugged, with possible duplication among the listings.
